Abstract | In Slovenia there is an increase in the incidence of snakebites. In most cases the bites are considered to be caused by nonvenomous snakes or as »dry« bites of venomous snakes. In all such cases the bitten limb should be immobilized, tetanus prophylaxis should be evaluated and analgesics should be administrated if required. In cases of severe local signs of envenomation or severe systemic envenoming, symptomatic treatment and antiserum administration is indicated. Fasciotomy should be reserved only for cases with compartment syndrome. |
