Abstract     Europe is facing the challenge of delivering quality healthcare to all its citizens, at affordable cost. Prolonged medical care for the ageing society, the costs of managing chronic diseases, and the increasing demand by citizens for best quality healthcare are major factors. The emerging situation calls for a change in the way healthcare is delivered and the way medical knowledge is managed and transferred to clinical practice. Services to support chronically ill patients in their living environment are inevitable to the European as well as Slovenian healthcare system. In the paper telemedicine at home principles are described and examples of applications in Europe and Slovenia given. An emerging telecare system called Lifeline "or" red button is an example of a "care at a distance" and is available to all potential users in Slovenia offering them higher safety at home. Telemedicine applications at home still need to be developed. Design of a smarthome called "Dom IRIS" at the Rehab Institute of Slovenia in Ljubljana is will facilitate the development.
Summary     Storitve zdravja in oskrbe na domu na daljavo so storitve prihodnosti za starajočo Evropo, kjer potrebe po zagotavljanju zdravja s staranjem strmo naraščajo, z njimi pa tudi finančne potrebe. Čim več zdravljenja je potrebno preseliti v domače okolje, vključiti neformalne skrbnike ter uvesti sistem oskrbe na domu na daljavo. V prispevku so podana izhodišča, ki zahtevajo dopolnitev modelov nudenja zdravstvenih storitev v Evropi in Sloveniji. Prikazani so modeli telemedicinskih storitev, v katere sta vključena med seboj oddaljena bolnik v doma em okolju in zdravstveni delavec ter primeri storitev
