Abstract     The assessment of cricothyroid muscle (CT) function after the thyroid surgery was made in 60 patients. Paresis of the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve (EBSLN) was established on the basis of symptoms, laryngoscopy and EMG of CT. In 71 per cent of patients typical voice troubles were detected and in 73,3 per cent the laryngoscopy showed signs of the paresis of EBSLN. EMG was performed in 36 of all cases and in 28 patients (73,3 per cent of clinically suspicious cases) the more or less expressed signs of denervation were found. The authors believe that the EMG of CT is deciding for diagnosis in doubtful and professionally relevant cases.
