Abstract     Saliva is important in maintaining oral cavity homeostasis. It helps in preventing dental caries, promotes demineralization of the early carious lesion, neutralizes acids produced by bacteria in dental plaque, and protects from infections in the oral cavity. Radiation therapy in the head and neck region injures the salivary glands. This results in reduced secretion of saliva. Such patients are subject to fast progression of the caries process. Without adequate treatment, caries can destroy the crowns of existing teeth and damage their pulp and adjacent periodontium. Early diagnosis and timely prevention of caries are essential. The treatment of these patients is complex. If endodontic treatment is needed, a prosthodontic rehabilitation plan must be prepared in consultation with the prosthodontist before the start of therapy. It is important to educate and motivate the patient, as only active involvement on both sides leads to improvement in the patient's quality of life.
