Abstract     Lower back pains are connected with an individual's personality structure. Regarding an individual's personality characteristics, pains in the locomotor system are considered to be his/her response to the external loads and circumstances. The results of the analysis of the connection between personality characteristics and experience of pains in locomotor system in 84 test subjects who were, on the basis of an expert assessment, capable of performing work from the psychological aspect determine the basic personality characteristics of these persons. According to the results of our analysis, subjects with pains in the locomotor system are sensitive, slightly more introvert, with a decreased resistance to stress and the overwhelming psychosomatic way of defence reaction. These are personalities with poorer adaptation potentials, unsuitable education and those who are too old for drastic changes. The frequency of pains in the locomotor system could be reduced with a radical intervention into their work environment, with the introduction of technological, organizational and ergonomic changes as well as with a suitable staffing procedure and human resources management. In Slovenia, pains in the locomotor system are still an acceptable way of escaping from an unpleasant environment- also from an unsuitable work environment.
