Abstract     Musculoskeletal disorders are considered to be a serious problem of the Slovene workforce. They could be controlled or prevented by workplace health promotion programmes. As many as 46 % of Slovene workers who answered that their work affected their health said they suffered from backache and 38 % said they had muscular pain. The same situation is to be found in statistical data on sick-leave of Slovene workers. Musculoskeletal disorders are the most frequent cause of sick-leave. Workplace health promotion programmes, designed for the prevention or control of musculoskeletal disorders are effective. Findings relating to various dimensions of workplace health promotion programmes, published in foreign literature, and designed for prevention or control of musculoskeletal disorders are presented. The first Slovene workplace health promotion programme Fit for work is presented.
