Abstract     A normal immune response relies heavily on a number of factors: strong physical barriers, developed immune mechanisms, T-cell subpopulations that effect suppression, bacterial flora. In the newborn, several of these pathways are not matured, and intestinal bacteria are crucial for the development of an immune response, including immunopathological reactions. With age, the lymphoid tissue matures, and iu most individuals this allows for generation of the normal response against infections.
