Abstract		Surgical dental procedures are very common in patients receiving oral anticoagulant therapy. Anticoagulant treatment increases the risk of bleeding during the procedure, while withdrawal of therapy increases the risk of thromboembolism. This report provides recommendations regarding optimal management of patients on anticoagulant therapy undergoing minor and major surgical dental procedures. Minor procedures generally do not require interruption of oral anticoagulant therapy. For major procedures the treatment is interrupted. Bridging therapy with low-molecularweight heparin is instituted only in patients with very high thromboembolic risk.
