Abstract     The article deals with the treatment of skeletal and dental open-bite malocclusion (Angle class 2) in late adolescence after the cessation of accelerated pubertal growth. The described anomaly is usually the result of several factors, external as well as genetic. The causes for the development of an open bite, its impact on the facial skeleton and its treatment in different age groups are presented. We describe a boy in whom orofacial function abnormalities (atypical swallowing, open-mouth posture, habitual mouth breathing and incorrect tongue position) persisted into late puberty. Orthodontic treatment was carried out in two stages, first with a functional appliance and subsequently with a fixed one. The morphological irregularities were corrected but Ilp contact remained inadequate.
