Abstract     Although it has been generally known for a long time, Thai cecliac disease can appear in any life time span, there is still a misconception that the coeliac disease is limited to the child age. Coeliac disease has its origin in the abnormal immune response to nutritional antigens - i. e. gluten antigens in individuals with inborn genetic constellation prone to the disease. The disease has features of allergic reaction to nutritional antigens as well features of autoimmune disease. A clinical picture is marked by broad variety of symptoms. In some patients we can find fully developed disease, in others symptoms are minimally present or even absent We speak on subclinical or asympcomatic forms of the disease in which the disease hasn't been clinically confirmed and managed. The serologic markers (antiglinadin, anti-endomysial, anti-reticular antibodies as well tissue transglutaminase) has become crucial screening of those patients. For the final diagnosis biopsy of small intestine is needed. Nongluten diet is still the only way of managing the disease. It is of high importance that family physician as soon as possible detects symptoms of coeliac disease, although the incidence of the problems differs a lot between primary care and hospital settings. On the basis of this a family physician can plan diagnostic and therapeutic measures. The patients With confirmed coeliac disease are managed at the subspecialist level and by a family physician.
