Abstract     Pharmacokinetically-based dosage individualization of drugs with a narrow therapeutic index was a tedious process with often an unpredictable outcome. Selection of an initial dosage regimen was based on various nomograms or algorithms and complex mathematical equations. Now, that computers are readily available with a database of population pharmacokinetics and the patient's demographic and biochemical data, more accurate dosing of these drugs can be achieved. Numerous computer programs are available to aid the clinician in dosing drugs with a narrow therapeutic range. Feedback from the patient's drug serum concentrations can correct the dosage reg less th. men if necessary. These computer programs are only a tool to be used by the well trained clinician. With proper utilization of such a pharmacokinetic computer program patient health care can be greatly improved. This article presents an outhne of the integration of Bayesian methods for pharmacokinetically-based individual dosing.
