Abstract     Background. Neoplastic pericarditis with cardiac tamponadr is a rare complications of malignant diseases. The authors describe three patients with such complication of lung cancer. Results. In two patients cardiac tamponade occurred late in the course of the already confirmed disease. In the third one it was an early manifestation of disseminated but at that time unrecognised primary tumour. In all of them the tamponade was recognised in time and treated successfully, but they died because of the progression of the malignant disease. Conclusions. Neoplastic pericarditis with cardiac tamponade occurs most frequently in patients with lung carcinoma. Although prognosis in patients with disseminated malignant diseases is in general very poor, the possibility of a neoplastic pericarditis should routinely be suspected. It must be confirmed or excluded with appropriate investigations.
