Abstract     Functional Independence Measure (FIM) is the most widely used outcome assessment tool in rehabilitation medicine. It consists of motor and cognitive subscale with 13 and 5 items, respectively, all rated on a 7-point scale. At our Institute, compulsory assessment has been preformed since 2004. The paper addresses the data until the end of 2006. In addition to FIM scores, we analyze patient demographics, duration of rehabilitation, time since impairment, FIC and AN-SNAP classification, admission and discharge diagnosis, complications and treatment cessations, and type of admission, treatment and discharge. We also assess metric characteristics of FIM and try to model patient progress. The paper emphasizes the importance of adequate data visualization for decision support and the importance of professional data analysis for healthcare quality.
