Abstract     Recovery of immature oocytes followed by in vitro maturation (IVM) is a potentially useful treatment, especially for women who are infertile through polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). In comparison to conventional assisted reproductive technologies (ART), the major benefits of IVM treatment include avoidance of the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), reduced costs, and less complicated treatment. In patients with PCOS we attempted to assess the success of oocyte in vitro maturation in in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures. We compared the clinical results following two different hormone priming protocols: pretreatment with human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) or follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) before immature oocyte recovery. The results showed that the imrnature oocytes successfully matured, fertilized and developed into embryos. In patients pretreated with hCG pregnancy rate was higher (15.2%) than in FSH primed patients (5.0%). The method of in vitro maturation of oocytes in IVF procedures proved clinically useful, particularly after the hCG priming protocol.
