Abstract     A school child spends the major part of a day at school, after which he has also obligations at home; this lasts at least eight years, the same as obligatory school education. School with its obligations influences also the general and health state of school children especially if it is overburdening. In research, the health state of 1531 elementary school children of the third, fifth and seventh class from 21 selected elementary schools in Slovenia, is shown. The health state was recorded in a questionnaire by school doctors in charge of this population and by the parents. The school influence is reflected in the values of blood pressure, measured three times during morning, and in the cortisol level, measured two times during morning, namely in September, December and May, with which the seasonal mobility is indicated. The serults demonstrate that school was attended by around 11 per cent of chronicly ill children, functional disturbances being more frequent in higher classes; 44,4 per cent of parents of the seventh class children believe that their children are overburdened. The cortisol levels are highest in May, which is an indicator that children experience their obligations as stress. Statsitically significant are connections between the describing of physical fatigue symptoms and the frequency of falling ill in third class pupils, the functional health disturbances in fifth class pupils, while seventh class pupils, who slept less, showed functional health disturbances in a higher degree.
