Abstract     Sudden hearing loss seriously affects patient's life and worsens his quality of life. Vascular, viral and autoimmune theory are most commonly mentioned as the cause of sudden hearing loss. Diagnosis is made by otoscopy, acumetry, pure tone audiogram and tympanogram. Systemic corticosteroid and vasodilatative therapy is preferably used as the treatment of sudden hearing loss. The prognosis of hearing improvement after the therapy is uncertain. Results of the therapy are better in less advanced hearing loss and when tinnitus and vertigo are not present. In case of treatment failure, a cerebellopontine angle tumour has to be excluded in unilateral sensorineural hearing loss.
Summary     Akutna izguba sluha zelo prizadene bolnika in lahko precej moteče vpliva na kakovost življenja. V ospredju so vaskularna, virusna in avtoimuna teorija nastanka nenadne naglušnosti. Diagnozo postavimo z otoskopijo, akumetrijo, tonskim avdiogramom ter timpanogramom. Največkrat se uporablja sistemsko zdravljenje s kortikosteroidi in vazodilatatorji. Prognoza izboljšanja sluha je negotova, uspeh je boljši, če je naglušnost manjša in če naglušnosti nista pridružena tinitus in motnje ravnotežja. Ob neuspehu zdravljenja moramo pri unilateralni senzionevralni naglušnosti izključiti tumor v pontocerebelarnem kotu.
