| Abstract | Contribution deals with the role of epidemiology in accident prevention in Slovenian road traffic. There are two main data sources regarding the traffic accidents on the national level in Slovenia; Ministry of internal affairs of the Republic of Slovenia and Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Slovenia. These two sources differ according to basic methodologic starting-points, but they also complement each other. Basic epidemiologic data concerning traffic accidents as cause of death and hospitalization of Slovenia population are quoted for the period 1987-1991 (number, sex differences and age categories). Identifications of age categories, for which the risk regarding the way of traffic participation is greatest, are very important from the injuries prevention point of view. Therefore in the contribution as an example, the deceased during the period 1987-1991 according to age categories and the way of participation in road traffic are demonstrated. | |
