Abstract     It is necessary to evaluate the economic balance of the increase in milk production resulting from a reduction in prevalence of major pathogens infectxons and of the eventual milk losses as a result of minor pathogens infections. Considering the probable milk losses, and the so far uncertain protective effect of minor pathogens against naturally occurring major pathogens infections some caution on this subject may be recommended. As we see from this report, there are many unanswered questions in connection with minor pathogens infections of the mammaxy gland. However it would not be surprising if intramammary infections with mxnor pathogens will play a role in mastitis control programs on low BMSCC herds in the future. The situation in Slovenia is such, that we don't know, whether minor pathogens do or do not play an important role in bovine mastitis. As minor pathogens are probably mainly of importance on low BMSCC herds, an observational study on the frequency distribution of the BMSCC is recommended. In addition to that further investigation of clinical mastitis incidence and subclinical infections might be necessary.
