Abstract     Background. The principal objective of the study was to determine the acceptability of switching from Noriday 1/50 to Lo-Femenal (NtL) in comparison to switching from Lo-Femenal to Noriday 1/50 (LtN). The matter of interest was whether a switch from one pill formulation to another would result in an increase or change in side effects leading to discontinuation. The change from a standard to a low estrogen dose was of particular concern. Methods. A total 296 women were recruited to participate in the clinical trial and 264 were included in the switcher population analysed in this report. Results. There were no statistically significant differences in the method and total 3-month life-table rates for discontinuations between the two groups. Menstrual reasons, personal reasons and method related reasons for discontinuation were not significantly gÐhigher in the LtN group.
