Abstract     Background. Nontraumatic rhabdomyolysis is common clinical and laboratory syndrome. One of the sequelae of rhabdomyolysis is acute renal failure. Methods and results. Five patients with acute renal failure following nontraumatic rhabdomyolysis treated with haemodialysis are presented. Diagnostic procedures and clinical course in patients with nontraumatic rhabdomyolysis are demonstrated. Conclusions. Acute renal failure following nontraumatic rhabdomyolysis is relatively common disease. The diagnosis of rhabdomyolysis is simple with determination of creatine kinase level. The effective prevention of acute renal failure is possible, dialysis treatment is required in 15 percent. The prognosis of acute renal failure following nontraumatic rhabdomyolysis is excellent.
