Abstract     Background. The acid-peptic disease includes a heterogenous group of disorders affecting the upper gastrointestinal tract, all characterized by localized injury to the mucosa and the underlying tissues. The pathogenesis of the disease has as yet not been fully explained. The drugs at our disposal for treatment of the acid-peptic disease have different mechanisms of action. The paper features the pharmacological aspects of the medications as well as their working mechanisms and relevant side effects. Conslusion. On hand of the data available in literature in literature as well as gained by personal experience the paper emphasizes the necessity of careful assessment of the benefits and risks of prescribing such drugs in pediatrics, recommending the ones that are both effective and safe in treating children.
