Abstract | In this review some important enzymesm, used in drug synthesis, are presented. Esterases and lipases are widely used as biocatalysts for hydrolysis and esterifications. The synthesis of peptide bond is catalyzed by alpha-chymotrypsin, which belongs to the group of enzymes, named proteases. Oxudation and reduction reactions are catalyzed by oxydoreductases. Aldolases and synthases are the groups of enzymes, which are very specific. They catalyze only few reactions: aldol condensation is catalyzed by aldolase, the formation of beta-lactam ring of penicillin is enabled by N-penicillin synthase. | |
