Abstract     Authors describe the problems and observations in families of 212 addicts, who have for the first time visited the outpatient department for addiction at the Institute for health protection in Koper, cooperated in the inquiry. Addicts have begun to drink alcohol already at 6 years of age (x = 14.4 years, SD = 2,3 years), to consume tobacco (x = 14.4 years, SD = 2,5 years), marihuana (x = 16 years, SD = 4.9 years), heroin (x = 20.6 years, SD = 5 years). Mothers were mostly occupied with the up-bringing of childnen (44.3 per cent). The education of addicts was inadequate regarding the recent cognitions concerning children education. There was a lot of arguments between mother and father and later on divorce followed. The percentage of divorces among the parents of addicts was essentially higher as among the population. Addicts have a very small confidence in their parents, but if they do have some they much more trust their mother than father. The families of addicts are burdened with various drugs (alcohol, tobacco, etc.)
