Abstract		The efficacy of cough in tetraplegic patients as measured by peak expiratory flow was evaluated at two rehabilitation centers. It was found that electrical stimulation of upper motor neuron paralyzed abdominal muscles was as effective as traditional manually assisted coughs in which a caregiver compresses the abdomen.
