Abstract     Background:This paper describes women’s problems in their reproductive period in which they are confronting the premenstrual syndrome and also describes various possibilities of medical treatment or alleviation of symptoms of premenstrual syndrome. Conclusions: Premenstrual disorders encompass the terms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and premenstrual exaggeration. By the notion PMS we address a group of symptoms, like depression, sadness, disquiety, irritability, tension, weeping, mood oscilations, sensitivity and growth of woman’s breasts. More than 80 % women in reproductive phase of life have been through the premenstrual symptoms. However, when physically symptoms are expressed enough to interrupt normal social and professional woman’s activity, we address them as premenstrual dysphoric disorders. PMS symptoms appear in a period of luteal phase. PMS can be treated by inhibitors of prostaglandin synthesis, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and oral contraceptives. Mild forms of PMS can be also treated by physical activity, fruit and vegetable diets and full of grains. Current research supports treatment with cognitive behavioristic therapy for improving the mood and reducing PMS symptoms.
