Abstract		Background. The authors are presenting the results of surgical treatment of mature cistic teratoma and its characteristics. Methods. Work is based on early ultrasonograph and computer tomography scanning and early surgical treatment which should remove the whole tumour if possible. Pathologist analyses the material and gives us the final diagnosis. Results. Two tumors of early childhood with the origin in the sacrococcygeal region were operated. In both cases the whole tumour was removed. Diagnosis of the pathologist was the same in both cases: mature cistic teratoma. Conclusions. The newborn baby with palpable abdominal mass or any other abdominal symptom should be diagnostically treated as soon as possible and operated if necessary. The early operation gives the patient good chances for complete restitution, delayed diagnosis or operation increases the risk of malignant alteration of the tumour.
