Abstract     Drug interactions in dermatology, as in other disciplines, are reflected in altered pharmacokinetics or altered pharmacodynamics. The former is manifested as a change in absorption, biotransformation, redistribution and excretion of drugs. The rate of interactions caused by a particular drug depends on the mode of its use: topical application is associated with fewer interactions than systemic use of the same drug. Dermatological drugs can interact with other drugs applied either to the skin or systemically. The probability of interaction depends also on the degree of absorption through the skin, which varies with the type of drug and the pathological condition. Thus, the physician should keep in mind the risk of interaction when prescribing dermatological drugs.
