Abstract     The aim of the study was to determinate the prevalence of ticks infected with Borrelia bordorferi in one part of Slovenia. All ticks were collected around the city of Ljubljana during May and June 1990. 129 Ixodes recinus ticks were tested to determinate the presence of B. burgdorferi. The ticks were dissected and sereened with indirect immunofluorescent assay (IFA) using serum of patients with clinical stage of Lyme disease and high serum titers ( greather th. 1:256). Among 129 ticks there were 86 (66,6 per cent ) nymphs and 43 (33,3 per cent ) adult ticks. It was found that among nymphs only 8 (9,3 per cent ) were infected with B. burgdorferi and among adult ticks only 12 č (27,9 per cent ). But still our plan is to test a bigger geographic area and to continue our studies. The results suggest that there are ticks infected with B. burgdorferi and that there is a risk of getting Lyme disease after a tick bite.
