Abstract		The discovery of potent therapeutic molecules that do not reach clinical application due to poor penetration into the tissues and cellshave fuelled the investigations of new efficient delivery systems. Recently developed cell-penetrating peptides (CPP) non invasively penetrate cell membrane and are able to translocate different cargoes into the cells. Nowadays CPPs are successfully applied for in vitro and in vivo delivery of small-molecule drugs, peptides, proteins and nucleic acids in research work, but some of them are currently under clinical evaluations. In this review we highlight structure, function and cellular uptake mechanisms of CPPs and their potential applications for the delivery of therapeutic molecules.
