Abstract     Introduction: The work in the intensive care unit is specific if compared with the work in the general hospital wards. Critically ill patients with unstable wital functions are treated by different profiles of health professionals. Workload is continuous and final outcome depends on the level of the medical management and on the close cooperation between members of the team. Therefore, the work in the intensive care unit should be organized according to the principles of the team work and proper cooperation between all team members. The duties and competencies of the every team member must be clearly defined. They have to be aware of the advantages of the team work and of the barriers for implementation of the team work principles in daily practice. Cooperation and collaboration in the routine activities and especially in the important decisions is related with improved outcome of the patient treatment and positive working atmosphere. Discussion and conclusions: The organization of daily routine work at the Medical intensive care unit in General hospital Celje and practical implementation of teamwork principles is described and analyzed. The most important elements of the team work are medical reports and meetings of the team members, rounds, communication at the shift changes, communication with patients and relatives,education and research. We believe that the majority of our work and activities is organized according to team work principles, but we are aware that it can be further improved.
Summary     Uvod: Delo na intenzivnem oddelku je v primerjavi z delom na drugih oddelkih v bolnišnici specifično. Zdravimo hudo bolne z nestabilnimi življenjskimi funkcijami, pri obravnavi bolnikov sodeluje veliko različnih profilov zdravstvenih delavcev. Delo je neprekinjeno in izid zdravljenja je odvisen od strokovnega dela, v dobršni meri pa tudi od medsebojnega sodelovanja in zaupanja. Delo na intenzivnem oddelku mora biti zato organizirano po načelih timskega pristopa in ustreznega sodelovanja med vsemi člani ekipe, ki pa morajo imeti jasno opredeljene naloge. Zavedati se morajo prednosti timskega dela pri vsakdanjem delu in še posebej pri reševanju morebitnih sporov ter ovir pri njegovem uveljavljanju. Medsebojno sodelovanje pri zdravljenju in sodelovanje pri pomembnih odločitvah je povezano z boljšimi izidi zdravljenja in pozitivno delovno klimo na oddelku. Razprava in zaključki: S prikazom organizacije in poteka dela na Oddelku za intenzivno interno medicino prikazujemo uresničevanje timskega dela. Najpomembnejši elementi timskega dela so predaja službe, skupni sestanki, vizita, sodelovanje pri posegih in sprejemih, komunikacija s svojci ter edukacija in raziskovalno delo. Ocenjujemo, da večinoma delo opravljamo timsko, hkrati pa se zavedamo, da se da timski pristop še izboljšati in izpopolniti.
