Abstract     The gag reflex is a normal physiologic mechanism that prevents foreign bodies from entering the trachea, pharynx, or larynx by the contraction of the oropharyngeal muscles. Hypersensitive gaggers cannot endure dental procedures. Several behavioural and pharmacological techniques have been introduced to prevent and control gagging. The paper describes the prosthodontic management of a patient with a severe gag reflex under intravenous sedation. A metal-porcelain bridge was placed in the lower jaw according to the concept of the short dental arch. The maxillary removable denture retained by conical crowns was minimized to avoid tactile stimulation of the denture on trigger areas.
