Abstract     In this paper, the authors present the condensed history, technical aspects and usage of thermography in medicine. Special attention is given to the study carried out at the Institute of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, Medical Centre Maribor. Based on thermography and relying on artificial intelligence, the goal of authors' research was to examine the possibilities of using thermography as a tool for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome diagnosis and setting guidelines for possible future applications. Thermography is an excellent method of examination, useful in the field of medicine for its safety (passive, no touch examination), lack of pain and invasiveness, easy reproducibility and low running costs. Despite its advantages, the analysis of thermographic images can be a tedious job, because the accuracy in defining interest areas in the images is exceptionally important and many times we need measurements accurate to 0.1⁰K. For this purpose, we developed software for exact analysis of thermographic images, which automates the diagnostic procedure of carpal tunnel syndrome.
