Abstract     Chronic hepatitis B virus infection as well as the presence of a past viral infection may lead to the reactivation of hepatitis B in patients undergoing immunosuppressive therapy due to some underlying diseases. Prompt introduction of a preemptive treatment or chemoprophylaxis may successfully prevent the viral reactivation. For that reason, screening for hepatitis B virus infection prior to the introduction of immunosuppressive therapy is crucial for the management of hepatitis B reactivation. The pathogenesis, risk factors and clinical course of hepatitis B reactivation in patients undergoing immunosuppressive therapy, as well as antiviral agents and the national guidelines for its prevention are presented.
