Abstract     Background. Author was interested in the successfullness of the endoscopic treatment of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) with collagen in children. Methods. In 113 children with 139 VUR (99 girls and 14 boys), average age 5.9 years, a transurethral submucosal injection of O.65 ml collagen ('Zyplast') in average (from 0.2 to 1.1 ml) was performed. Before treatment 78 ureters showed reflux grade II, 56 grade III, while 5 had reflux grade IV. All patients suffered from recurrent urinary tract infections. In average 5.9 months (from 2 to 17 months) after the aplication of collagen 100 children with 115 VUR was controlled. Micturition cystography and ultrasound (US) of the urinary tract were performed. Results. After the single injection of collagen VUR was cured in 74 children with 87 VUR (75.7 per cent). Only 10 children had urinary tract infections during the follow-up period. None of the children had the iatrogenic posttreatment obstruction of the ureter. Conclusions. Treatment of VUR with collagen in children is very successfull and safe method. We think that it is possible to correct the majority of low-grade reflux with this method.
