Abstract | Background. The authors analyse the records of 104 patients with ankle fractures treated in the hospital. Results. There was no differences in the final results of treatment between the group receiving conservative therapy and the group treated by surgery. Full reduction of the fracture was achieved in 81. 7 per cent of cases regardless of method of treatment used. Emergency treatment by closed reduction or surgery was accomplished in 95 per cent of cases, whatever the method employed, yet 13 per cent of those who were first treated conservatively required operative treatment later on. Good position of articular fragments after initial treatment was observed in younger patients. The mean age of patient treated by surgery was significantly lower than that of the patients managed conservatively. When, despite the available advanced by bullous oedenaa, later indications for operative treatment are much more restricted. Conclusion. The authors suggest the shema of choice of treatment modality based on Weber's classification of injury. | |
