Abstract     In the last decades there have been important changes in the morbidity structure and causes of death of population, especially of the urbane one. A significant increase of degenerative diseases has been observed together with a substantial decrease of the number of infectious diseases. The influence of cardiovasculary diseases on the structure of death causes is important. The expected life span is a significant indicator of socio-economic and health state of the population. Whereas the expected life span of newborns and small children has prolonged essentially, it has remained practically unchanged in 50 years old and elder which can be attributed to the increase of chronic degenerative diseases, especially of the cardiovasculary system. The opinion prevails, that there are three factors responsible for this: unsatisfactory exercise, inadequate nutrition and the plethora of psychic stresses. The family as a basic social unit has an important influence on all the mentioned factors. Parents can impart proper nutritional habits to the child and the harmony in family environment can prevent the child from many stresses. It is also important for a person to experience the physical activity as a regular component of life. Systematic physical activity beneficially influences all the risk factors: obesity, high blood pressure and the increased fat values in the blood. During the time of physical activities one is also sale from physical stresses of urban environment. Positive effect of recreation is seen in the improvement of functional abilities of locomotory apparatus, organs for oxygen transport and regulative mechanisms of nervous system. Recreation must not act destructively on the family - it should link it up.
