Abstract		The work of an only physician from the country out-patient department in a small area with 2100 inhabitants far from urban centres and demographicaly at risk is described. Some of the problems of inhabitants, especially youth and families are dealt with. Of much weight are the troubles resulting from inability or ignorance for the overcoming of stresses and from the immature or loosened mutual relationships. The young ones search for their identity in inadequate places and in an inadequate way, the couples are lost in disrespect, uncomprehension, waste of time in pubs, excessive drinking, conjugal infidelity. Some of this troubles origin in the youth and are later transferred further on to the children. The physician tries to influence this vicious circle with the health education, working together with a nurse. The education is organized for pregnant women, mothers with infants, small children, at the occasion of systematic medical check-ups of schoolchildren, during the regular work in out-patient department, at visits in families and at habitual visits in nursery (children, parents), school (children, teachers, parents); church (parents, youth). This sort of activity tries to help individuals and families at coping with stresses and dangers of modern time and at creating and maintaining of a healthy family. The first results of such a work are already foreseen and also the inexhaustible possibilities for a preventive family practice.
