Abstract     Febrile seizures are seizures occurring in preschool chiidren, usually between six months and 5 years of age, who are genetically predisposed to convulsions with an increase in their body temperature. With febrile seizures children have a fever above 38.5 cC and an infection, which does not involve the central nervous system. Convulsive episodes with fever in children who have previously had an afebrile seizure, neonatal seizures or symptomatic seizures are not class ed as febrile seizures. The article provides an overview of the latest understanding of febrile seizures during childhood. Guidelines for the management of febrile seizures are presented.
