Abstract | Primary snoring and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) are sleeprelated breathing disorders with the same pathogenesis but different levels of symptom severity and influence on general health. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was used to investigate the effect of the human upper respiratory tract (URT) geometry on internal pressure. The 3D model was reconstructed from computed tomography (CT) obtained in awake adults with OSAS, snoring problems and control patients. The results for patients with OSAS show a strong correlation between pharyngeal narrowing and pressure drop. |
