Abstract     Background. Supracondylar fractures of elbow in infants are difficult to manage by conservative methods due to difficulties in fracture reposition. Therefore we evaluated the success of operative treatment in such cases. Methods and results. In the article we present the results of open reposition in 37 infants with supracondylar elbow fractures. The average age of injured children was 7 years (from 4 to 12 years). 35 patients were operated during the first 6 hours after injury, while 6 patients were operated later. Outstanding functional results in 87.5 per cent of analized patients, have been ochined, satisfactory in 8.3 per cent, and poor results in 4.2 per cent. Conclusions. The advantages of open reposition in supracondylar fractures are emphasized in the article.
