Abstract     Background: The purpose of this article is to describe the imaging features of nontraumatic orbital abnormalities that are encountered in the emergent setting and need a prompt and accurate diagnosis. Methods: Computed tomography and magnetic resonance are excellent imaging modality that have significantly enhanced orbital imaging in the diagnosis of ocular and orbital lesions. These conditions are infections, inflammations, vascular abnormalities and retinal or choroidal detachments. Conclusions: Computed tomography is the first choice modality, however magnetic resonance differentiates among various tissues based on signal characteristics and thus aids in differential diagnosis.
