Abstract		Life style determines both quality and quantity of our lives. In the majority of western countries the area of acute infectious diseases has been replaced by the epidemic of chronic non-infectious diseases. To cope with these particularly chronic cardiovascular diseases, family doctors play the major role, especially because of their engagement in primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. This case-report proves that pharmacotherapy alone is not sufficient to control atherosclerotic complications. The patients have to be aware of the fact that improving their own cardiovascular status demands active and intensive self-engagement.
Summary		Življenjski stil pomembno določa kakovost in kvantiteto posameznikovega življenja. Iz obdobja akutnih nalezljivih bolezni je velika večina zahodne civilizacije prešla v obdobje kroničnih nalezljivih bolezni. Pri zajezitvi le-teh, še posebej kroničnih srčno-žilnih bolezni, ima ključno vlogo zdravnik družinske medicine kot izvajalec primarne, sekundarne in terciarne preventive. Opisani primer bolnika dokazuje, da farmakološka terapija sama nikakor ne zadostuje za zadovoljivo kontrolo aterosklerotičnih zapletov. Vsi tovrstni bolniki se morajo zavedati, da lahko izboljšanje svojih srčno-žilnih bolezni dosežejo le ob dodatnem intenzivnem in aktivnem lastnem angažiranju.
