Abstract     After the thalidomide disaster, WHO established an effective international system for adverse drug reaction monitoring. Its main task was early detection of clinically important side effects of drugs and prevention of drug disasters. Slovenia is going to reestablish active participation in this program. Close collaboration of pharmaceutical industry, pharmacysts, patients, and above all, more active role of doctors is needed in prevention, early detection, therapy and appropriate documentation of adverse drug reactions. This is their not only professionally but also legislatively determined obligation.
