Abstract     Complications occuring during and after insertion of a permanent cardiac electrostimulator are rare, their incidence not exceeding 5 per cent. Since the majority do not imperil the patient's life and are at the same time of transitional character, cardiac electrostimulation is one of the safest and most effective methods applied in medicine. The complicatons are divided into: early, late and those wich may occur either immediately after implantation or several month or years later. A rare but serious complication is thrombosis of the superior vena cava. It is documented by a case presentation. For all complications, a short description and pathogenesis as well as the method of treatment are given.
