Abstract		Basic definitions of waste arising from health activities, professional handling of waste and consequential health risks are presented in the contribution. Pilot study of the situation in one of the health centres is presented as a possible base for the model of waste handling in similarly organized institutions. A possible organization of waste handling on a state level is also proposed and some proposals for a sistematic solution of medical waste handling are given.
