Abstract     In the article, I present a research which I have carried out with 113 firstgrades, who achieved high results in IQ tests, and their parents. The parents were asked to choose an answer of how they would reach in a situation where the teacher has wronlgy evaluted their child's knowledge and in the event of their child choosing an activity of interest. They could choose among the answers which expressed different degrees of accustoming their child to independent problem solving and different degrees of the child's freedom for independent decising making. If found that the first-grades having the most optimistic expectations about their study achievements were those whose parents treated their study problems seriously, actively participating in their solving or encouraging their children to solve them by themselves. With regards to choosing an interest activity the parents acted in a democratic way, speaking with their child about the positive and negative sides of a decision.
