Abstract		Adhesive systems are currently used in nearly all fields of dentistry because of their effectiveness. When used properly, they create a strong and durable bond of the composite material to enamel and dentine. They differ in their mechanism of bonding and number of clinical steps. The quality of bonding is affected al so by the structure and composition of dentine and enamel. Rapid advances in this technology have led to a reduction in the number of system components and simplification of the c1inical procedure. At present, the best results in terms of bond strength and durability are stili achieved with the use of three-step etch-and-rinse adhesives.
