Abstract		Laboratory diagnostics is one of the main parts of the medical care for diabetic patients which makes the diagnosis and fllow-up of the therapy possible. It is particularly important in urgent conditions, such a hypoglycemia, diabetic ketoacidosis and hyperosmolar coma. The order and extent of laboratory procedures influences the efficiency and the price of medical care. Since the intention of our health system is to provide all patients with maximal feasible health care, the balance between the needs and the cost must be found. A flow chart has been developed to that effect and its proposal is the subject of this paper.
