Abstract | Introduction: Individuals respond to stress in ways that may affect their psychophysical equilibrium as well as their entire personality. Work-related stress will impact the employees' personal life on a physical, emotional, spiritual and social levels and also their relationship with patients. Methods: Qualitative research methodology was used in the present study. A questionnaire as a sole instrument for the collection of study data was developed. It is composed of four open-ended questions. The selected participants were requested to give full and comprehensive written answers. The empirical data thus collected were qualitatively analysed and verbally interpreted. The qualitative research approach was selected in order to get an insight into the factors within the realm of work-related stress by studying subjective experiences of the participants. Results: The empirical data collected were analysed and grouped into four categories to address the research question, including the stress-inducing factors in work and home environments and the adequate support in coping with stress.Discussion and conclusions: The nursing employees in psychiatric field often fall victims to work-related stress. Different pathologies of patients appear to be among the most significant work-related stress risk factor, along with the working conditions and interpersonal relationships among employees. A home environment can also be stressful. Unresolved stress will almost always eventually lead to a burnout syndrome reflected in various health conditions. Work-related stress can be reduced by taking appropriate measures. The results of the study might form the basis for appropriate action to prevent or reduce harmful effects of stress. | |
