Abstract     The spin probe EPR -oximetry of isolated mitochondria from muscles of laboratory rats was used to study their functional states. We have found that EPR oximetry is sufficiently sensitive to follow the respiratory metabolic states 4-3 transitions in suspensions of mitochondria in spite of the low concentration of isolated mitochondria. Many advantages of this method compared with the classical respirometry for small samples with oxygen electrode, are evident. They suggest the use of EPR oximetry as a suitable method for studying the metabolic respiratory states of mitochondria in mitochondria dependent muscular myopathies. Small tissue samples provided by biopsies are suflicient to perform the measurements. The respiration of the sample containing mitochondria with different respiratory activity is discussed.
